First Stop Ayutthaya, old capital of Thailand

Hello good people of Blog Land. This is officially my first post on our fantastic Blog. So fantastic is our Blog that I hope more heads bother to sign up! But for those of you who were feeling loyal/bored/spend to much time on the internet, heres the first post. When we landed in Bangkok, Kev was waiting for us as planned. All tanned and long haired and looking like a hippy. We went and spent about a week in Ayutthaya, where Chris and Ann live and got a deadly introduction to the country, cause the guys live there, so after hanging out with them for a week we felt almost like we did to. Apart from drinking way too much Chang and Sang Som Rum, we mostly spent the days sweating out (C)hang overs while just getting our bearings and visiting temples. Some of which were old ruins, others were spectacular and still in use. Photos..... check it out.....

Wat Ratchaburana in central Ayutthaya
Buddha Head entwined in tree roots Wat Mahathat
Ruins of Wat Mahathat, central Ayutthaya
View from entrance to Wat Yai Chai Mongkon
Approaching the main temple at Wat Yai Chai Mongkon
Rows of terracotta Buddha in gardens of Wat Yai Chai Mongkon
Entrance to huge golden Buddha (built in 1324) in Wat Phanan Choeng
The thing was massive.......

Nearer the end of our time in Ayutthaya, Ann and Chris took us to see the biggest Buddha in the World supposedly. On our approach to it, I think Chris summed up the whole cars feeling when he said softly from the back seat...... "Oh......My....... Buddha!"

We've now set off in Betsy with Kev, on our way to the island of Ko Chang to chill out like never before. Laters.....

  3. I can't see any signs of hardship yet! Though the photo of Tam looks like she's just realised she doesn't know where the loo (pit?) is!

When you get back, we'll go for a pint and you can tell me all about it! Or we could sit on the boardwalk for ages again and you can tell me all about it! Talk soon.
